Logo Design with Signage in Mind

If you’ve started a new business, it’s likely you’ve also had a logo designed. Your logo has to accomplish a lot - most importantly, it’s the iconic representation of your brand. When people see it, they think of your product or service.

Beyond that, it needs to “work” in so many formats. After all, it will be on your website, business cards, and, if you grow into a brick-and-mortar space, it will likely be used in your signage.

That’s where Image360 Woodbury comes in, but not all logos (and not all logo file formats) translate easily from print to signage.

If our team designs your logo, we'll be thinking about all the ways that you'll be using it. In doing so, we will be focused on:

  1. Simplicity - Too many colors or words are hard to read. Not to mention, the city where your business is located will only allow a sign to be so big (usually based on the street frontage dimensions of your suite or building).
  2. Fonts - While they look nice on paper, not all fonts are great for signs. They may be too ornate or the letter stroke (thickness/width of the letter) may not be large enough to physically produce.
  3. Colors - Professional designers should offer multiple layouts and color formats for your logo since the background of the logo is never constant. If your business is in a gray building, gray sign letters won't be visible. Having optional color formats will give you the flexibility to ensure that your logo is seen.
  4. Layout - Some logos simply won't transfer well to certain types of signage. Unfortunately, it's impossible to predict what kind of odd scenarios you may encounter with your future space.

The designer of your logo should be considering all of these things when completing your design. As your business grows, you may even want to consider having brand guidelines created for the use of your logo and other brand materials. The guidelines address how your logo may appear in any type of media. But that’s a separate story.

Suffice it to say, your signage professional may be the best place to start for your logo design, and Image360 Woodbury would love to work with you!
