Do I Need a Sign Permit?

Do I Need a Sign Permit?

Let's Start A Conversation:

1/5/2018

There are quite a few variables to consider when you are in the market for new or updated signage for your business, but before you start getting the wheels turning on your signage project, you will want to make sure your sign is allowed in your location – this is where the sign permit comes in.

For outdoor signage, you almost always need a permit. In fact, did you know that in most cities, even hanging up a temporary banner on your building or putting a banner flag out on the corner will require a permit? In KCMO, sign permits are only issued to licensed sign contractors. In other cities the business owner can apply directly, but the process can be complicated and expensive, especially if it’s not done correctly.

Many cities and suburbs have sign ordinances that specify what signage is allowable – there may be restrictions on size, location and the type of sign that you use – be sure to check regulations and if necessary, secure a written approval from your landlord prior to investing in your new sign.

Give yourself plenty of time to get your signage permitted - allow at least two weeks for the paperwork, and then 2-6 weeks for production, depending on the type of sign.

A trusted sign company (like us) can manage the entire signage permitting process for you, from start to finish.  Have a signage project that may require permitting?  Send us an email at info@image360kcm.com or call our shop at 816-960-4546 and we will be happy to help.
