Rules for Signage Success?

Let's Start A Conversation:

8/28/2017

Even though it is 2017 and the world is moving toward a digital world, businesses need signage that is appealing to the public eye. It is essential for local businesses to have signage that portrays a credible brand for a good first impression. There are some fundamental rules you need to follow to maximize the potential of the local market!

Location

The way you are going to win new local business is by having enticing signage that is viewable to a mass amount of people. Successful signage will communicate to people what you do before they even enter the door. People tend to shop where they live so it is imperative to take over the local market. Signs strategically placed nearby the location can help the local market, that doesn't necessarily pass your door, realize you are in the area. An example is on the side of the street at a traffic stop where people have time to read the sign. At the very least, you need signs that inform people in the area that you exist.

Size

Taking size into consideration is a big part of the execution of an effective sign. You want your sign to be big but that does not mean you have to overdo it. An oversized sign can be a distraction and detrimental to the message you want to portray. You want it to be big enough to read from a distance but not obnoxious.

Creative

People see signs all the time but why are people going to internalize your sign? There needs to be a wow factor about it, whether it is bright colors, cool design, mind blowing fact, or anything else that will make people take a second look before they move past it.

Social Media

Having appealing signs can help boost your social media game too! Pictures of your building with a welcoming sign in front placed on social media will give your company a better chance at bringing in traffic. Signage with calls-to-action will help send people passing by to your social media accounts. When people engage with your social media accounts, they build a stronger bond with your brand. It is important to know where your target audience spends their time at online. Facebook has a large range of demographics but tends to lean towards a more mature group. Twitter and Snapchat have a large amount of Gen X and Millennial users. Instagram is used mostly by people under the age of 35. If they never know you are on social media, they will never have that chance to engage with your brand online. Signage and digital presence can feed off each other to help your business grow!

Summed Up

Having great signage will build awareness and build your brand. You want people to know what you do but more importantly, know who you are. Are you a brand they can trust? Are you in a location that is accessible and convenient to them? Creative signs that are strategically placed can answer these questions for them which will bring in traffic. The recipe to successful signage is understanding the significance of location, size, creativity, and integrating social media.
