In mid 2015, the president of Otis College of Art and Design sought to dramatically upgrade the appearance of the school’s executive offices.
Featuring a traditional office cubicle environment, the suite’s bland and industrial look hardly represented the dynamic focus and creative culture of Los Angeles’ first independent professional school of art.
That said, no designer would have carte blanche for a complete makeover. Satisfied with the office’s basic layout, the college did not want to reposition or replace the cubical walls and start from scratch.
For ideas, Otis College turned to their local signage, graphics and display center – Image360. The nearby resource had enjoyed a long relationship with the school, having worked regularly with its art students to produce numerous projects and exhibits.
In fact, this relationship sparked a creative idea that proved to be the winner: Why not incorporate selected student artwork in the graphic design makeover of the school’s executive offices?
Armed with a solution that was enthusiastically endorsed by the college, Image360 sprang into action, first measuring and then even re-measuring all surfaces intended to receive the artwork to ensure a proper fit.
The signage, graphics and display resource next created a series of PVC (polyvinylchloride) panels to hang from the walls of the chosen cubicles. For them, Image360 then digitally printed on vinyl the selected student-created artwork for application to the panels.
One challenge? While panels were approximately four feet wide, a large mural and several paintings required combining three or four panels – making seamlessness a paramount objective among the Image360 installers.
Completed to great acclaim by Otis College’s president and school administrators, the new graphic designs in the executive offices were evaluated as a complete success, cementing Image360’s relationship with the school and generating more orders for the center.
As an example of the importance of visual communications – and the value of experienced local resource to implement them – we’d say the results achieved by Image360 for Otis College earned high honors!
